A Perfect Winter Storm & Trailfest

01/11/2013 1:17 PM | Deleted user

The beloved Lakes Basin trails took a beating in the recent storms. A couple feet of slushy snow got deluged with over 15 inches of warm rain, turning most of the high country trails into massive sluices.

The Forest Service resources to mitigate damage on this scale are almost non-existent, and there is no local funding available for the system trails in 2013. This is the nutshell of why we founded this Stewardship in the first place.

The Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship’s paid trail crews are working full throttle to mitigate this damage between now and next summer, as well as keep on with their efforts to restore and improve trails throughout this area.

But it is time consuming and expensive work, and we need your help: We have set a goal of raising $50,000 by January 19th.

Come party with us and celebrate 10 years! We will be hosting Trailfest at Nakoma Resort on January 19th, 2013. ALL proceeds from this event will benefit the restoration of trails in the Lakes Basin.

Trailfest is going to be a very fun benefit event with live music provided by Buster Blue, dancing, food catered from Nakoma Golf Resort, beer from The Brewing Lair, silent and live auction with items donated from The Grand Sierra, Patagonia, REI and many more! We will also have project updates from the SBTS staff! Tickets are only $35 and all proceeds go directly to maintaining and restoring the trails in the Lakes Basin. We can’t do this without support from our local community, so come out and celebrate with us! You can buy tickets online at www.sierratrails.org or at these locations: Nakoma Golf Resort, Pangaea, Quincy Natural Foods, Eco Centric and Chalet View Lodge.
