Californians for the Arts is thrilled to report that Assembly Bill 580, the new legislative bill that would increase appropriations for the California Arts Council (CAC) from $1M to $75M, will be formally introduced to the state assembly this Tuesday, April 9 at 9 a.m.

This bill's passage would have an enormous impact on rural arts community and communities throughout the state. The funds from AB 580 would bring California's per-capita arts spending up to 12th in the nation, or roughly $2.00 per person. The CAC is currently doing strategic planning to determine which of its programs would be revived if the bill passes.

In the meantime, it is vital that you join Californians for the Arts, California Arts Advocates and the California Theatre Network in making known your support of this bill and the tremendous impact its passage will have on the quality of life in the state of California.

The following link will take you to the website of your local Member of the Assembly in Sierra & Nevada County, District 1, Brian Dahle. Please express your support of AB 580:

Thank you all for taking the time to support the arts in California.

There are great changes brewing in eastern Sierra County undefined a new fiber system and improved internet access with expanded coverage is in the works, with the idea of the county being able to support the ability for people to live here while working from home, for a remote business.  More and more people are doing just this, but you can't if there's not the technology here to make it possible. But that is about to change!

So all of you who have jobs that you can do from anywhere, or those of you with an employer who has a generous off-site/remote work policy-- this is your opportunity to make that dream come true: live here but keep your current job! Play AND stay! Get up early and go fishing before work. Take an afternoon ski and make up work in the evening. Hike Round Lake Trail, take a dip, eat your lunch by the lake  and then get back to work, refreshed.

Sierra, Plumas and Lassen Counties are now working together ensure that technology will be there to support this nationwide movement of making us be able to live our lives to the fullest. The Lost Sierra region is one of the most incredible locations in this country when it comes to recreational options and housing affordability.  And now we're adding business relocation opportunities to that. With our proximity to Reno/Sparks, Truckee and Sacramento, we are well positioned to build upon the momentum of those persons desiring to live and work in the beautiful Sierras and who in the past could not make the leap without expansion of technological opportunities.

So don’t just come to play  undefined  come to STAY and play and live in the beautiful tri-county areas of the Sierras and bring your entrepreneurial spirit to our affordable and community oriented locations.

Lost Sierra Rec and Tech Collaborative information is found on www.recandtech.com.

Come on out of the house, avoid cabin fever and meet your neighbors while you still remember what they look like. Each Thursday a location in Sierra City (and once a month in Downieville) host a dinner. Some nights are potluck appetizer dinners, others are full serve restaurant dinners.

The beloved Lakes Basin trails took a beating in the recent storms. A couple feet of slushy snow got deluged with over 15 inches of warm rain, turning most of the high country trails into massive sluices.

The Forest Service resources to mitigate damage on this scale are almost non-existent, and there is no local funding available for the system trails in 2013. This is the nutshell of why we founded this Stewardship in the first place.

The Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship’s paid trail crews are working full throttle to mitigate this damage between now and next summer, as well as keep on with their efforts to restore and improve trails throughout this area.

But it is time consuming and expensive work, and we need your help: We have set a goal of raising $50,000 by January 19th.

    Donate at: www.sierratrails.org

Come party with us and celebrate 10 years! We will be hosting Trailfest at Nakoma Resort on January 19th, 2013. ALL proceeds from this event will benefit the restoration of trails in the Lakes Basin.

Trailfest is going to be a very fun benefit event with live music provided by Buster Blue, dancing, food catered from Nakoma Golf Resort, beer from The Brewing Lair, silent and live auction with items donated from The Grand Sierra, Patagonia, REI and many more! We will also have project updates from the SBTS staff! Tickets are only $35 and all proceeds go directly to maintaining and restoring the trails in the Lakes Basin. We can’t do this without support from our local community, so come out and celebrate with us! You can buy tickets online at www.sierratrails.org or at these locations: Nakoma Golf Resort, Pangaea, Quincy Natural Foods, Eco Centric and Chalet View Lodge.

Are you a business owner in Sierra County? Or do you have a business outside of the county that does business in it? Or an individual who want to support our efforts? Or a business in one of our neighboring counties who want to get exposure to Sierra County residents (and visitors)?

If so, please come join the chamber! Become a member! You can join or renew online, and pay with a credit card, or fill out the form and mail us a check. Either way, don't delay! We'll start working on the visitors guide soon, and if you haven't joined or renewed before we do, you might miss out on being included in it.

The Sierra County Chamber of Commerce is an all volunteer organization hard at work every day: we're working on promoting and providing information about the county and all that it has to offer to visitors and residents, in order to make people's stays or residence here more pleasant, fun and filled with memories. We're showcasing local businesses to visitors and residents alike, provide a website with information about things to do, places to go and a directory full of resources. We travel around the state and participate in travel events as well as the California State Fair. We also produce the Visitors Guide each year, a publication that is a great resource for anyone spending any time in our fair county. We are also participating in some membership organizations such as the Gold Country Visitors Association as well as Dogtrekker.com, working to leverage resources and get better reach.

Join the chamber to get exposure to residents and visitors, to support our efforts, to get access to information and resources available only for members-- and, because its the right thing to do!!! Fill out a Membership Application Form or sign up online now!
